How We Got Started
In 2003, a small group of Coastside residents from a non-denominational, Christian house-church network in Montara decided that Montara needed a community center. We started out in a small green storefront on Main Street (although our name goes a bit deeper), running everything from dance and exercise classes to home repair workshops and sumptuous Sidewalk Chef grilling exhibitions.
All Greenhouse classes and events were free or at-cost. The same remains true to this day.
After several years in Montara with a building presence on Main Street, The Greenhouse now primarily runs events out of rented space and homes in Montara. Our popular Saturday Youth Game Night, for example, was held at the Coastside Children’s Program’s (CCP) building on the Farallone View School campus.
The Greenhouse continues to run weekly after school and youth mentoring programs, as well as facilitating youth service projects that bring the Montara community together for good causes. Past youth projects have raised well over $10,000 for humanitarian causes, as well as many tons of donated food for needy Coastsiders.
